My name is sunwoo, but you can call me sunny

Growing up in Seattle, WA, I was the awkward, quiet Korean-American kid that tried his best to fit in. Over time, I found different ways to “be accepted” - telling stories and trying to make people laugh, always observing the overall feel of a group, accommodating to what others wanted to do. I was your stereotypical people-pleaser for a long time, even more recently than I’d like to admit.

Still, who would have thought that growing up as a perpetual people-pleaser would come in handy one day. I’ve become hyper-attuned with being able to read a group and trying my best to create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. I’d like to say I’ve come to own my identity and realized my strengths, reclassifying myself as a vibe-facilitator. DJing has become the perfect medium for me to channel this on a larger scale.

My journey as a DJ wouldn’t have been possible without a handful of perfectly-timed opportunities. I was given my first platform from my high school leadership teacher who was looking for a volunteer DJ for our school dances. I learned what it took to run a business from him as I went on to DJ for other high schools in the greater Seattle area. I was given my first DJ controller and chance to run a wedding dance floor from an older brother of mine. I got my first consistent gig soon after moving to Los Angeles through a random DM to the Maum Market, who just so happened to be looking for a DJ.

I’ll never take any wedding, party, or event for granted! Whether it was through word of mouth or through pure chance, I’ve been blessed with every opportunity I’ve been given and I’m thankful that I have a platform to blend my love for music and people. I’m always looking to build on my experience and become a better DJ and vibe-facilitator.
